9. INDICATIONS OR MARKS IDENTIFYING THE LOT - art. 5 (1h), art. 22 and art. 23 WEL
This identification may be indicated by a convertible code and not necessarily "easily understandable" for the consumer. According to the Council Directive 89/396/EEC on indications or marks identifying the lot to which a foodstuff belongs (not relaid by the WEL), the letter "L" should be used, preceding the lot indication in cases where this is not clearly distinguised from other indications on the label. However the Dutch government did not reproduce this prescription in the national laws, claiming that confusion actually never occurs.
